4 SKY HD boxes and 8x8 Matrix switcher

Hello All,

Wondering if anyone can help me with this situation.

I have 4 HD sky boxes attached to a Gefen’s 8x8 HDMI Matrix switcher. I want any user watching any sky box should be able to change the channel for that particular sky box only.

Scenario: I have a user1 watching TV 1 - SKY box 1 and another user2 watching TV2 – SKY box 2. I can have 4 IR hubs connected or 1 IR hub installed. Now if the user1 wants to change the channel on sky box 1: will that change channel for all sky boxes or will change for sky box 1 only?

Any suggestion how should I do this?

Neeaj,
This is a great question and one that comes up over and over again. I am afraid the only way to solve this challenge is with a "routed" IR system. Therefore, the IR commands going from the user must be routed to only the Sky box you are currently using and NOT to all of them or they will all respond which is very undesirable behaviour. If you are using the 8x8 matrix inconjunction with our Forté A-BUS system then you do not need to worry as this provides a routed IR intrastructure but limited 4 sources (which is normally enough). Alternatively our HAI control platform has addressable IR ports on the Home Theatre Extender so you can route the right IR command to the right device. Philips Pronto with an IR extender will also provide the routed IR function.

Hi
Or you use a bitwise control system.
Control wirelessly using an itouch with a bitwise gui loaded.
Load 4off sky ir devices into the project with each one routed to a diferent ir port on the bitwise bcx4.
On your activities page gui have a button for each sky box.
Then when you go to a particular sky receiver page (eg: sky box two) it will only control sky box two, as the ir will only go out of ir port two on the bitwise controller, which you connect onto 'sky box two'.

The important bit is that you just need to set up each separate sky ir device to be routed to a different ir port on the bitwise bcx4 controller.
