What is the pin out of the RJ12 connector used for RS-232 on the HAI controller?

This connector is an RJ12. This is the same as an RJ11 but it has 6 pins instead of 4. You count the pins from left to right when you are holding the plug with contacts up and the hole the cable goes in is pointing towards you.

Pin 1 - N/C
Pin 2 - GND
Pin 3 - DCD
Pin 4 - TX
Pin 5 - RX
Pin 6 - 12v

Jason,

In the Omni IIe installation guide it shows a 4 core cable (Yellow, Green, Red, Black) going into the supplied 21A05-1 DB9 adaptor. In my installation the supplied cable wasn't long enough so I simply used 4 core UK telephone cable to run from the phone socket and terminated it with a 4x4 RJ11 plug from Maplins.

Did I do something wrong? From your layout below it would seem I needed more than 4 cores and a different plug, namely an RJ12.

Help!

Thanks
Marc

Marc,
You mentioned telephone connection in your comments below? The RS-232 ports on an HAI system are for control of other equipment, not for connection to a telephone. I really think you need a trained HAI dealer to implement your project. I am afraid this forum is meant for custom install companies who are in the industry to discuss technical topics. i am afraid it is not possible to train you on how to become a custom install company via this forum. Please give me a call so we can make sure you are set up with a trained dealer to move you forwards.

Jason,

Firstly, you are right in that I am a HAI DIY'er, so if it isn't possible to help me on here I understand. I would like to note thought that I only said "telephone" because that is the cable I ran between the Crestron MC2e (which I CAN program) and the Omni IIe. From reading the documentation (Installation Guide page 23), it looks like a 4 core telephone cable would suffice, terminated with an RJ11.

Whilst I would be happy to engage you to help with the installation (given the poor response I get from the company I bought the kit from), at least letting me know whether or not it will work in the way I have it wired, would help me a lot. If I need to run CAT5 instead and use a different connector at the Omni end, so be it.

Thanks
Marc

Marc,
If you are trying to connect the Crestron and HAI together via RS-232 then this is the correct pin out out for this task. However, you iwll notice that pin 1 and pin 6 really do not do anything. Therefore you can use 4 pin RJ11 plugs and with a 4 core cable and they will fit in the socket on the HAI panel.

I have spoken to the dealer who is supporting you and he tells me he is visiting you on Monday. He is a good guy and knows what he is doing to he will be able to do all this stuff for you.
